I am a Professor at KTH, Stockholm, Sweden, leading the Networked Systems Security (NSS) Group. I earned my PhD from Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, USA. After holding positions at Virginia Tech, EPFL, and a visiting post at PoliTo, I joined KTH and established the NSS Group. I am a Fellow of the Young Academy of Europe (YAE) and an IEEE Fellow, Class of 2020.

Research

I design and build secure networked systems. In an increasingly interconnected world, we'd better be able to trust the systems we use and the information we get. That's basically what we are after with. The NSS research agenda includes a gamut of security and privacy problems. We have a strong systems character, implementing and evaluating our solutions. At the same time, we pay close attention to theoretical methods, including, notably, formal protocol analysis and information-theoretic results. For more information on research projects, please see summaries of our research activities here.

Our work has been funded by a number of European and national projects. One ongoing notable project is the Secure and private connectivity in smart environments (SURPRISE) funded by SSF. I am also a Knut and Alice Wallenberg (KAW) Academy Fellow, a program set up by the KAW Foundation in close cooperation with the Royal Swedish Academies; having 10 years of support.

I am a member of the Security Link Center steering committee.

Our research was included in the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences list of research with high potential to create impact.

I have co-ordinated the ICES Center Security Industrial Competence group. I was a member of the ACCESS Center Executive Committee, leading its Security, Trust and Privacy thematic area.

Professional service and activities

I am a member of the steering committees of the ACM Conference on Security and Privacy in Wireless and Mobile Networks (ACM WiSec) and the International Conference on Cryptology And Network Security (CANS). I am a member of the Privacy Enhancing Technologies Symposium (PETS) Advisory Board.

I was a Technical Program Program Committee (TPC) Chair for the CANS'18, ACM WiSec'16 and TRUST'16 conferences. I was a General Chair for the IEEE European Symposium on Security and Privacy (IEEE EuroS&P) and PETS in 2019, and ACM WiSec in 2018. I am a member of the Editorial Board of the ACM/IEEE ToN and IET IFS journals. I also served in the editorial boards of IEEE TMC and ACM MC2R, and in numerous TPCs. More information here.

I coordinate the Computer Science Panel for the KTH Research Assessment Exercise 2020-21.

I was an elected member of the KTH Faculty Assembly and a founding member of the EECS School Faculty Assembly.

Events

I organize the CyberSecurity and Privacy (CySeP) summer school and co-organize the MidnightSun Capture the Flag competition. I also co-organize the KTH Security Seminar Series.

Teaching

I teach networked systems security, open to advanced undergraduate/MSc and PhD students. I also regularly work with undergrads (e.g., individual study projects, first year design projects, BSc theses) and MSc thesis students (as supervisor and/or examiner).
