Необходимые факты

A Guide in English for Swedish People Applying for a Russian Visa in Sweden

Straight after the decision is made that you want to come to Russia, this is the first stage you are confronted with. In contrast to what many people think, visa application is a fairly straightforward process. If you’re on a budget, like me, then it may be much more sensible to handle the process yourself, rather than involving a third part, and so this is the approach I’ll describe here. Here is an attempt at a comprehensive list of the documents you’ll need (provided you’re a Swedish citizen applying for a visa in Sweden; there may be variation between countries):

When you’ve acquired all these documents, your next step is to submit your application to the visa application center. In Sweden, such centers are present in Stockholm and in Gothenburg. At the time of writing, applying for a tourist visa (assuming you go for standard handling times, i.e. not "express visa") will cost you 665 SEK (whence 350 SEK is the consular handling fee; the rest is the service fee charged by the visa application center). Application may be done either by paying a visit to the office yourself, handing over the documents in person, or, alternatively, by making use of postal services (though in that case, extra fees will apply). After signing your application and turning it in, you will be given a note of the preliminary date on which your visa will be ready. When you go to pick up your visa, make sure to bring a note of confirmation from your bank, indicating you’ve payed the visa application fee in full. If all goes well – congratulations, there are no additional steps.
