My research

My research interest mostly revolves around ubiquitous computing and human computer interaction. Currently I am investigating possible interaction techniques for a Marine Stabilized Satellite Communication Systems (MSSCs) under the project SatMax, in SatPoint AB, Stockholm, Sweden.

What is meant by marine stabilized satellite communication system? A marine stabilized satellite communication system is one satellite communication system that is installed (usually) on large marince vassels and it is capable of constantly pointing towards a set of specific satellite despite the movement introduced by the ocean wave.

An interaction with such sophisticated and edge cutting technologies requires high degree of training. I am mainly investigating how it can be viable for mariners to interact with such systems conveniently. Do you have more question? I am always willing to reply. Please send me email to nasimm, when you send, send it to domain kth.se or dsv.su.se

In short, we have utilized a User Centered Design (UCD) approach to develop the SatMax System. We have visited seven large marine vessels (ocean going) to examine the context of use. We have conducted a contextual enquiries. We have interviewed some captains, first-mates, radio engineers of all those ships. We have evaluated the system in several phases to make sure we have an informed design.

Technology used:

--We have utilized PC-101 running on customized lunux, as the controller of the system.
--Python for the server side (other colleagues)
--Java for different interfaces
--HTML, CSS etc for safe mode operation
