Mobile 3D Visual Search in 3D Environments

Test M3DVS in Stockholm

ABOUT

The M3DVS application demonstrates mobile 3D visual search of buildings using the database Stockholm Buildings. It supports Android devices with Android 2.6 or later. The OpenCV manager is also required. Please download and install them on your mobile device first.

INSTALL AND USE

Steps of using the mobile app:

1. Download and install OpenCV manager.
2. Download and Install the new version of the M3DVS app on the Android device.
3. Open the app. It will display 'touch the screen to snap the first photo' on the screen. Touch on the screen to capture the first photo.
4. The app will display 'touch to snap the second photo' on the screen. Touch again to capture the second one.
5. Then, the app will display 'wait...'. It will take a while depending on the wireless network. The image identification information will be sent back to you and displayed on the screen automatically.
7. Touch the Back botton to repeat the search process.  

Note: The application can only return correct information about a building if it exists in the database. We recommend the baseline distance between two images to be half a meter. The following shows several spots in Stockholm for visiting and testing our app:

If you are not in Stockholm, you can test our app with some example images.

1. Display photo 1 at full-screen resolution and capture the first photo.

2. Display photo 2 at full-screen resolution and capture the second photo.

3. The image identification information will be sent back to you and displayed on the screen.

To optimize the on-line test, hold your smart phone parallel to the screen and minimize the screen display effects. We recommend to display the images in full-screen and focus on the images to avoid any screen/computer background problems.
