Mnemonic major system

Having an excellent phonetic number system is essential if you want to learn numbers quickly and easily. A well-known system is the Mnemonic major system that dates back to the 17th century.

It is easiest to use the system in your native language, but it can be pretty hard to find words for specific numbers. This database can be helpful if you want to use the system in English. For Swedish, I have created the following number-to-words translations:

The tables are generated with the following script, using the phonetic data encoded in Folkets lexikon, with additional manually entered words. These pages are distributed according to the following license. Please email me if you want to extend the table with additional words.

If you want to learn about memory techniques in Swedish, then I recommend Jonas von Essens book Så får du ett superminne, his website, or the book Det andra minnet : om hjärnforskning, minnespalats och konsten att komma ihåg by Martin Nilsson. A classic book on the same topic is Moonwalking with Einstein: The Art and Science of Remembering Everything by Joshua Foer.
