In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
"the immortal gods" Immortal = Exempt from death, can not die.
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?
Symmetry= A balance in proportions, "not changing ???"
In what distant deeps or skies
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?
Thine=your
On what wings dare he aspire?
Aspire= accomplish
What the hand dare seize the fire?
And what shoulder, and what art,
Could twist the sinews of thy heart?
Sinews= Solid resilient strength, or "astonishing
intellectual sinew."*
And when thy heart began to beat,
What dread hand? and what dread feet?
Dread= To fear greatly.
What the hammer? what the chain?
Furnace= extreme heat. "A blast furnace to melt iron/steel"
In what furnace was thy brain?
What the anvil? what dread grasp
Anvil=Used by a blacksmith to hammer on, "to make horse shoes upon"
Dare its deadly terrors clasp?
Grasp= to grip Clasp= to hold ****
When the stars threw down their spears,
And watered heaven with their tears,
Did he smile his work to see?
Did he who made the Lamb make thee?
