Economics of National (Global) Information Infrastructures

• 10s of millions of PC sold each year (world-wide)
  on top of the installed base of 100s Million world-wide
• increasingly these are multimedia PCs
• Andy Grove (Chairman of Intel) predicts 100 Million/year sales volume for PC by 2000.
  This is more than the number of TVs or cars
• Does not include the 64 bit video -"game" systems and set-top boxes!
• More and more of these systems will be mobile computer and communication systems, thus there is
  potentially a very large market. [note the annual income from 07xx services in Sweden]
• Demand for connectivity is driving the demand for raw communications capacity; but Who will provide it?
