What then?
Mobile phones disappear - instead they will
become mobile computing and communication devices
- More and more interactions are not interactive conversations
- one-way messaging or
- query/response - however, the response is often not immediate
- Mobile access to data is becoming a larger and larger requirement
- most terminals will support a data interface
- while most new "multimedia" computers already include support for audio
input and output
- Images will become a larger and large component of communication, thus
traditional phone bandwidth will not be sufficient.
- more and more computers are including video input and output
- Terminals will become smarter (i.e., become more general computers)
- to limit link usage and
- to minimize energy consumption
- to allow change in behavior as standards and media evolve.
- to support identification/authentication/encryption... for both
communication and payment services
