Computer resources at KTH math
There are two compute servers at the department: eight.math.kth.se and nine.math.kth.se, both running ubuntu 18.04. To get access, via ssh, contact mathhand.
Hardware:
- eight: 2 * Xeon E5-2620 (24 threads), 128 GB ram
- nine: 2 * Xeon E5-2637 v3 (16 threads), 256 GB ram
Remarks:
- The resource is shared, so please do not leave high intensity jobs running for long periods of time.
- We try to avoid rebooting the servers if there are running jobs, but sometimes (e.g. if critical security holes are found) the computers must be taken down. To avoid losing work you can look into application checkpointing (examples/ideas how to do this in python can be found here.)
For more demanding tasks, you can apply for time on one of the SNIC clusters, options are described here. In particular, the SNIC Compute Small allocations are quite easy to apply for (but your supervisor might have to be PI.)
