The Djurgården players seem to have made it a habit to start the matches in a lame and uninspired way. MoDo's young players skated around the DIF defence in circles in the beginning. After a strange penalty decision from the overall not so good referee Ryhed, MoDo scored the first goal in power play by Magnus Wernblom. They also scored a second before Djurgården woke up, and as almost always DIF's best play came from the so-called glamour line with Knutsen, Erickson and Lindqvist.
As Djurgården seemed to have come back into the game with the 1-2 goal late in the first period, you had a feeling that they would have an easy way to a victory in the second and third period. However, in the beginning of the second period a major mistake from the DIF keeper Thomas Östlund made it 1-3 on a seemingly easy long range shot from Bystrom. A couple of minutes later, MoDo had a shot in the post, and being a Djurgården supporter you were getting quite worried.
Now DIF showed their strength. Without playing very well, they fought themselves back into the match. After Patrik Kjellberg's 2-3 goal, they also started to play well, and Eklund's equalizer was delicate. It must have gone literally through Petter Rönnqvist, because there was definately no opening.
In the third period, the young MoDo players seemed tired, and DIF dominated completely. The glamour line had a great time. It's too bad Espen Knutsen is Norwegian, otherwise the whole line would have been something for the national team. It was Petter Rönnqvist that saved MoDo from a larger defeat than it eventually became.
