CNET Help.com Tip

Build Bold Text

Photoshop 4.0 let you create bold and italic text directly from the Text dialog box, even if you didn't have the bold and italic versions of a font. Many designers were surprised to learn that this feature was removed from Photoshop 5.0. Fortunately, there are workarounds to create bold text in any font.

1. Create text with the Type Tool as you normally would.

2. Select Layer/Type/Render Layer from the main menu.

3. Select the text.

4. Select Edit/Stroke, set a width, and set Location to Center.

5. Click OK and your text will become bold. Try different widths to get the right look.
