Let’s try to find out if the importance of Religion is different from the late 90’s till today
I can choose different years (waves) of when the survey were made and I can go back and pick another wave at any time, great I will do that later. I press 1995-1998.
I can choose between 57 countries and pick several to compare.
This page lets me scroll or search for survey questions
I can see the different answers the people could choose from, what percentage they answered and how many people was questioned in every country and also what year.
I go back to the analysis page and choose the latest survey wave, 2010-2014. When I get to the select country page my previous chosen countries are already chosen, good, but I see that 4 of my 10 countries are missing and have not taken a part of this wave.

The importance of religion has lowered in all countries from the late 90’s to 2014. Here, I would have liked to be able to see the 90’s wave at the same time as the latest one to easier compare the two. It is however very easy to compare between countries. I can cross search by different variables, but different years are not possible.
What does this diagram show me?
It is very clear what countries are in the survey, they are all stated in the x-axel. What categories have been answered is also clear and colour coded. However, the numbers on the y-axel is not so clear and it is important to read the head line to understand what the numbers represent and what answer the participants have given. If one hover over each bar, information about every country is stated. One can also click on the categories to take them away from the diagram, which makes it easier to understand the data with fewer categories shown. There is a difference between the two diagrams. The first has 30 countries and 8 categories. This is because in the 1990-1994 wave there were less than 30 countries participating in this survey and one question were not asked at the time.
So, I want to know how many percentages of the Japanese population believed in God in 1990-1994. I also want to know if that has changed in 20 years. I find Japan on the x-axel of the second diagram. I hover over and can see that 37% believed in God. I scroll up to the first diagram with wave 2010-2014 and again hover over Japan. Here, I see that 41% now believe in God.
I have learned to gather information and figure out how to show it to others. Just because it is obvious to me what the numbers shown represent, that doesn’t mean that's the case for everybody. I am not fully satisfied with my visualisation using a bar chart, but I have never coded in D3 before so this was the best I could do at this point. I have learned how to code in D3 and use diagrams. Also, how to upload code using a URL.
