· Mon: A half day meeting with the project manager who is my supervisor.
· Tue-Fri: Analysing data and Information gathering.
· Wed: A meeting about terminals (PDA, cellular phones and PC)
· Mon: Meeting with the project group.
· Tue: Telephone meeting with David in Silicon Valley.
· Wed-Fri: First report about multi-access environment is produced to the project.
· Information gathering and analysing data.
· Information gathering.
· Information gathering and literature study.
· Mon: Looking at different company solutions.
· Tue: Meeting with T2-project group and Hans Bergendorff. Hans was presenting different methods to use when dealing with information gathering.
· Wed-Fri: Comparing propriety solutions with Mobile IP within roaming. On Thursday Jörgen Nillson, David Sundsröm and me had a half day meeting when we were working with the structure of the project and dealing with some question concerning roaming. We had also a meeting with Jasminko Mulahusik about roaming.
· Mon-Tue: The procedure in the project, which I also discussed with Jörgen will be as follows:
1. Looking at what kind of solutions different companies have and when the solution will be implemented.
2. Mobile IP4 and Mobile IP6 will be mapped out, above all with respect to time.
3. Follow up the Giftas project (a project within Telia Research AB).
4. David will handle the roadmap of the access technologies.
5. Input from phase 1 as: What (combination) technologies different terminals will support? Will they support roaming and what kind of roaming does they support.
· Wed: In a telephone meeting with David and Jörgen we discussed the procedure in the project.
· Thu: 10 ÅRS JUBILEUM
· Fri: Writing about Mobile IP and reading about some companies solutions.
·
Mon: Authentication, Authorization and Accounting (AAA)
are terms, which are interesting when dealing with multi-access. I looked a bit
on AAA protocol and the possibility of using AAA in multi-access. WLAN was
another area that I read about. I also had a meeting with Jörgen and discussed
·
Tue: After doing some research about multi-access the project
seems to be limited around roaming and handover between different
infrastructures. In the beginning of the project roaming was not taken as one
of the impotent issues. But after studying the activities more closely it
appeared that the foundation of the activities is roaming. In the afternoon in
a meeting with Jörgen, Peter, Henrik, Daniel and me attended we had some
discussions about the T2-project development and the issues we should
prioritise.
·
Wed: In a telephone meeting with David Sudström we agreed
that roaming is the basis of our work. We also considered that the
difficultness in this area is to make a correct roadmap due to the confidential
information. The best information source here at present are Helana Flygare in
Malmö and Ericsson scenario in Silicon Valley
·
Thu-Fri: I gathered some information about Mobile IP
and also found different companies with solutions for roaming/handover.
· Mon-Tue: I started to read about GSM and GPRS and map out how the access method is selected and where the logic is placed. On Tuesday I had a meeting with Jörgen Nillson and David Sundström and discussed among others how the result will be presented and put together. David presented his work at Silicon Valley and the issues that are interesting for our project. Hopefully we will have some inputs from his corporation with Microsoft and Ericsson.
· Wed-Fri: I am reading about UMTS and Bluetooth and working with the definition of the issue. On Thursday in a meeting with David we discussed the T2 project report outline and defined the subheadings in the report. We also agreed on how to deliver the presentation of the problem, which has a deadline on October the 5:th. I also made some research about multi access environment and found some interesting technologies and devices.
· Mon: I had a meeting with David Sundström and (discussed the attack in USA L) tried to identify what a multi access environment means. In Silicon Valley David have a contact with Fredrik Peterson who is working in Ericsson. Fredrik, David and two other persons will have a business intelligence scenario about multi access environment. We looked also at some multi access terminals and their capabilities.
· Tue: I was on a meeting according the terminal development business intelligence. We went through some PP-pictures and discussed among other things the different kinds of terminals and their capabilities and also the different kinds of components and their performance.
· Wed: I continued with the information gathering and reading of some material. I have now some information and documents about the access point, which are UMTS, GPRS, GSM, WLAN and Bluetooth and that I will read about this week and next week.
· Thu: Starting with GSM, I am now making a survey of the access points and identifying how the selection of the access method works and where the logic is placed.
· Mon: Reading some documents about multi access.
· Wed: I had a telephone meeting with David Sundström in Silicon Valley and discussed the activities in the project. I made a sketch over a multi access environment with the different possibilities and communication ways, which can occur on a multi access environment.
· Thu: I had a meeting with Görgen Nilsson (my supervisor) and discussed the different communication ways in multi access environment. We also touched the Master thesis outline. I had also a telephone meeting with David Sundström and went through a scheme of the multi access environment. We identified some contacts that could contribute with information.
· Fri: In a meeting with Greger Andersson we discussed who to select an access method. He described shortly what his project is about. The interesting area here was the comparison between WLAN and GPRS and the handover their between. Some points in the discussion were: The handover between GPRS and WLAN and that UMTS can be compared with the GPRS in this case. How to chose an access method and that the WLAN has a higher priority due to the lower cost and the higher bandwidth. Where is the logic located, in the net or in the terminal? An example we looked at was GSM compared with GPRS and that the logic in GSM is located in the net but in GPRS the logic is located in the terminal.
· Mon-Wed: I spent the first three days on introduction at Telia Research AB. Since in my Master thesis project I will work in the “T2-Terminals of tomorrow” project on Wednesday we had a project meeting with all the project members (6 persons), project leader and SOA (Satsnings områdes ansvarig). We discussed the project and it’s activities. The project is divided in two parts, phase one and phase two. Phase one will look at technical conditions and available technology concerning terminal development. Phase two will deal with the terminals part in a multi access environment such as how to chose a access method and where is the logic located. There are four persons working with phase one and two persons in phase two. I am working in phase two with David Sundström who is placed in Silicon Valley.
· Thu: I had some discussions with my supervisor and began to identify the area.
· Fri: We had a whole day meeting with “Instant Internet” SO (satsnings område), which included four projects, that my project is one of them. There were also some other projects from another SO presented.
