Now we are here. Well, we have been here for a while now, and I have settled down at The University of Melbourne. I am taking subjects from the Masters in Telecommunications by Coursework course. Recently I moved out of the flat we had at The Avenue to North Melbourne, where I share with a classmate. Below there is a map of central Melbourne and North Melbourne is just north-west of the city and west of Uni.

Melbourne is a very beautiful and lively city. Many green parks, with The Royal Botanic Gardens as the greenest, stunning architectural wonders and skyscrapers share the city by the banks of the mythical Yarra River. Quiet areas with cafes, romantic restaurants, Victorian houses and soft pubs mix with liveband pubs, crowded nightclubs, Crown Casino and a vibrant street life, and makes up very special atmosphere. But above all there is the friendly and generous Melbournians, mixed out of nearly all of the worlds nationalities, that makes Melbourne most special.

Melbourne is the capital of Victoria, "The Garden State" as it reads on the plates, which has a rich collection of National Parks, from the the Victorian Alps region, that usually have snow during the winters, to rainforrests, long beaches, high coast with astonishing seascapes, flat plains and deserts. Melbourne itself lies in the middle of the state on the southern coast inside the protecting Port Phillip Bay.

...Anyway (Meaning; after that tourist commercial :-), here are some pictures we have taken whilest doing some tourism excursions in the city of Melbourne and its surroundings. It will most certainly be built more upon before I leave.

196 The Avenue
(4 pics!)
So this is where we used to live. The Avenue has houses on one side and the huge eucalyptus paradise of Royal Park, with the Royal Melbourne Zoo, on the other side. It lies just north-west of the Uni. No, kangaroos do not crowd the streets but there are plenty of possums in Royal Park (and everywhere else :-).

The University of Melbourne
(5 pics!)
Or Uni, as it is generally referred to here, is a nice place to study at. And it has a clocktower just like KTH.

The City of Melbourne
(5 pics!)
Here are some general pictures of Melbourne including the city skyline, some architectural wonders, landmarks and tourism attractions...

Airshow Down Under
(21 pics!)
Roaring F-16s and AH-64 to F-111s and Hercules...

The Royal Botanic Gardens
(10 pics!)
This Botanic Garden is considered as one of the best botanic gardens in the world and one can see why after spending just a few minutes there...

Australian Formula One Grand Prix
(12 pics!)
-If you have not seen a Formula One race live, you can not miss this chance, I said to myself. And to you who are thinking about doing the same thing I did, I just say: Don't forget your earplugs!

Royal Melbourne Zoo
(21 pics!)
Animals from all over the world were lying in the shadow, thinking we were crazy not to, on the sunny day we visited them. Here are pictures of everything from big cats, confused by all the food outside of the cage, to koalas, hiding in the trees.

Great Ocean Road and The Grampians National Park
*UPDATED 990919*
(23 pics!)
The Easter break was used to take a tour to view the scenic Great Ocean Road and a famous National Park, The Grampians. And during the four days we also did some horse riding, canoeing, abseiling and mudbaths (!). Unfortunately Mikaelas camera was lost and so was half of our pictures.

Australian Rules Football
(3 pics!)
Footy, football, or aussie rules, is the national sport here.

Rialto Towers
*NEW 990919*
At the top of the tallest building in the southern hemisphere there is a spectacular view over Melbourne.
