On
this page you will be able to see my latest documented windsurf session
in Stockholm.
Now, proudly presenting Erstaviken, a comfortable cove in the suburbs of the Stockholm archipelago. |
It's an unusually warm saturday in the latter part of Febuary this present year of 1998 and I'd quess it's the debut of the season for all of us. The date is Febuary the twenty-first and it's ten degrees celsius in the air and a mere four degrees in the water. |
Here
am I, thinking it's great to be out again!
And as you can see, I forgot my gloves this first time out but, it wasn't so bad until I came back in and had to go through the pain as my hands warmed up! |
Dick Tillberg who was also sailing this day as well as his son Fredrik is on his fast 6.5 slalom sail and small CLS slalom board. |
I'm
on my 6.0 slalom sail and 280 course slalom
board with a large 115 liters of volume. And I'm still having a blast without my gloves on. |
I'm even almost jumping in the flat water. |
I'm kueueing up for a jibe here. I think it's the jibe I tried to pull off in front of the jetty where Erik was taking pictures from. The board didn't turn fast enough but I was able to jump into the water just before my board hit the jetty. I ended up soaking my cap and had to sail the rest of the session without it. |
So,
here I am without a cap...
The winds were south-west, coming from the other side of the cove. This meant flat water and easy sailng but, having past the hills of the other side, the wind was gusty at times. During my session,
the wind varied between seven and eleven m/s.

Here is Dick in whole person, a real jolly chap! He has ducktaped a block of cell plastic on to his board for extra floatation. And what I know of it, it seems to work great. |
Cold sessions like this don't actually seem that bad now, do they. They always make me feel real good. It is after all my earliest debut for the windsurfing season in Stockholm ever! But I'll have to say sorry to Fredrik who windsurfed with us this session for not having any pictures of him, and then once again we'll be waiting for the winter to go away before another session can take place again. |
